Stay Clear of Hypothermia

With the cold weather we have been experiencing this week made me think about the different problems that could come up in a backcountry setting. One of those problems is hypothermia. Of course hypothermia can be prevented by properly layering and having the proper shelter, but do you know what to do if you did experience hypothermia. First thing is you never want to warm the body rapidly. Make sure you put on dry warm clothes. Sipping warm sweet liquid helps in giving your body the needed fuel it will use to warm itself and also helps raise the core temperature. The best way to prevent hypothermia is to prepare. Bring proper clothes and equipment with you and always prepare for the worst.
