Cool Way to Escape the Heat
By John Pistotti

As the Sacramento summer heats up, Peak Adventures finds various cool ways to escape the heat. The salty coastal air and the dense forested hills of Santa Cruz provides a fun get away three hours southwest. Upon arriving to the area we ate lunch and tossed the frisbee in true Santa Cruz style.

We stayed at Henry Cowell State Campground and after setting up our tents Friday afternoon, we immediately took to the trails for some basic riding instruction and off-road fun. Saturday was spent with a brief stop at the boardwalk, followed by a challenging ride uphill at Wilder Ranch and a thrilling descent. We shuttled the van back to the top of Twin Gates trailhead for one more downhill pass before returning to camp for a well earned meal. After packing up the campsite on Sunday, we returned to Twin Gates for a couple more laps before heading back home.

Everyone was exhausted from riding hard all weekend. As we arrived in Sacramento in the heat of the day we were ready in anticipation for the Santa Cruz Surf Cap in September.
